Fall. Family. Food. Football. Fun
Not only does the University of Rice excel academically, they have turned up the heat athletically over these last couple of years. On Saturday I attended the 2016 Senior Football Game, and I can not stop complimenting on how family oriented the atmosphere was the entire game (from tailgating to post meet and greet with the players and their families). You see children of all ages running around getting to high-five and congratulate players 2 feet away from the field; the athletes waving at their fans with huge smiles on their faces; and need not forget the head coach and his assistants greeting family members, children, and bystanders making sure they feel a part of something bigger than themselves during game day.
I met a few men and women who live in Houston that did not attend the University but love coming to the University’s athletic events because of the easy going, family friendly, and over all fun game day experience:
“Why would you not want to spend the Saturday afternoon with family and friends for a $30 ticket without the $1,000 headache? You get to be in the scene front and center on a gorgeous campus. You are bound to have a good time no matter the outcome. Now, of course, winning is always better than loosing.”

The year 2016 marks Coach Baliff’s 10th season with the Rice Owls. Baliff (along with his staff) has had tremendous accomplishments with the program on and off the field from their record breaking winning seasons, successful NFL Career players, bowl game attendances, to their new facilities and much more.
